Google Latitude Leaderboards come to Android

With the latest update to Google Maps on Android, Google has stealthily breathed some new life into the oft forgotten Latitude. In a move that seems to compete with a service like Foursquare, Latitude now tracks check-ins to restaurants and attractions on a weekly basis with leaderboards. First visits gain more points that second visits and visiting different types of locations seems to reward more points as well, again much like Foursquare. While the functionality isn’t available through anything but Latitude at the moment, it’ll undoubtedly roll out in a more pronounced form in the near future.

I compulsively check in whenever I notice Latitude has checked me out of home. I get a point every time I do this, whether I’ve been out or not. And Leo Laporte is still beating me.

I have never used a check-in service, but maybe I just need to leave the house more often. :/
